RE: Mexican Diesel Run

Nogales is a much larger port with greater traffic and I was talking about driving across, not walking. It has been only in the last two years the agents started mentioning anything about crossing. Nothing has ever been said when I rarely walk across. Give them time especially with the new reader on the passport. First they input my vehicle license plate and then swipe my passport before they even ask me what the purpose of the trip was. They care!

Thanks for the heads up. I actually would drive across each time not walk but that was almost 3 years ago. Now I just do my San Felipe trips during the winter and maybe only cross twice a month. Maybe one positive thing to come from this will be the wait times in line trying to get back across :)

RE: Mexican Diesel Run

You can't use anything but an installed aux tank in your truck and the factory installed main tank. Also beware you are input in the computer data bank every time you cross back into the states and tracked. They are watching for people who are not using the fuel for personal use plus other stuff. No drums or cans are allowed. No tanks mounted in trailers. I don't know about a transfer tank compared to an aux. tank. Because we cross over every couple of weeks, they let us know they are aware of our lasting crossing. Good luck!

I worked in Mexicali for two years and had a rental in Calexico and I would cross the border sometimes 4 times a day(i would cross over for lunch. Not once was I questioned about how many crossings I was doing. Even if they do track it I wonder if they really care.

RE: Ford F series front end shaking

I am having the same problem with my truck 05 f250 4x4. I was told it could be the ball joints or a bad seal. I havent taken it in to be looked at yet because I really only notice it on dirt roads and speed bumps.
I'm at 28,000 miles now and figure I will have it looked at when I go in for my 30,000 mile trans service.

RE: San Felipe

TO "Blanket": We are arriving in SF in 2 weeks, staying @ El Dorado Ranch in our 30 foot 5th wheel, on a friends sand lot #s 610001802 & 610001821. We've not RV'd to Baja previously . . . Do you think we can pull in our rig with our 4 wheel drive truck without much trouble? Thanx in advance; any other advice you may offer is much appreciated!
MN Ramblers~
You wont have any problems pulling your trailer into El Dorado as long as you stay away from the beach you will be fine.

RE: Riding and camping in Baja?

I thought I would give you something to look forward to. This makes all the craziness of going down there worth it.

RE: Riding and camping in Baja?

thanks for the info, Pete's is looking good, I just noticed there is no hookups. Do they frown on you running your generator at night to run the ac's? It is a diesel generato which is not very loud.
The plan is that I am driving in to L.A , where 4 of my cousins along with their wives and some kids, we are all going to caravan up together, some are going to tent it while others are going to bring their campers.
Is it pretty easy to move in and out of the campsite with a class A?
Pretty sure you can run the genny all you want. It is going to be hot and I bet you will have the place to yourself.
Getting your rig in and out wont be a problem as long as you stay away from the soft sand on the beach.

RE: Riding and camping in Baja?

You can try Pete's camp. You can pretty much ride from any campground out there. http://www.petescamp.com/principal.html
There is also El dorado ranch out there but I dont know if they have camping or not. They do have condos you can rent.
The months you have planned on are going to be extremely hot. Bring lots of ice cold beer. :) My father in law has a house down there and we usually do our last summer trip on July 4th, we do not go back until October when it cools down a little.

RE: And what did Santa bring me????

It's funny how some things work out. On my way home from getting an estimate today which was 3300.00 I spotted a neighbor cutting down a tree. This is what I drove home with for the price of loading it all up myself. :)

RE: And what did Santa bring me????

They are saying the winds here got up to 70mph. There is about 6 houses on my street that lost alot of roof tiles. One poor neighbor had 4 cars in his driveway and his roof shingles flew off and scratched up every single car. Those shingles were like 5 pound sand paper sheets flying at 50 mph hitting his cars roofs and doors leaving nice big scratches.
I had the police out to take a report last night and the cop was telling me that since it was a city tree that fell on my truck the city might pay for the damages. I have my fingers crossed hoping that is true if not I will be calling my insurance. :(

RE: F-250 ball Joint Failure

How would I know if my ball joints are bad, what are the symptoms? I have an 05 and when I go over a speed bump or a dirt road something in the front end feels like it is loose and letting the tires wiggle more then they should.I also hear a little knock noise to. Does this sound like it could be my ball joints? I only have 29,000 miles but I do have a 6" lift with 37" tires that could have caused them to fail early.
Thanks
